People often stop and ask my opinion about what to buy for their grandkids, nieces, etc. in stores. I don’t know if it’s because I look like a mom, or because you can always find me shopping in the toys or kids clothing section lol! 😁 

With my daughters being 5 and 7, this list is based on a round up of products they have all had before, loved playing with and current trends that I see in stores and online with great ratings! So without further ado, let’s go!

The kids these days love the fun unboxing surprise reveals, collectable dolls, plushies or figures – some have colour reveal or colour change. These come in many different prices ranges to suit various budgets.

Magna-tiles, Picasso tiles and other brands remain popular choices for 2024. Like lego but magnetic, kids can build 3D structures like castles, rocket ships, stars, trains and whatever their imagination can come up with! They come in various different size packs and price ranges. Standard packs have your basic magnetic squares, circles and triangles. But you can also find themed sets like marble runs, forest animals, car road tracks, Arctic themed sets and more.

Bonus – Cleanup is a breeze since they are magnetic. A plus for any busy parent!

Thanks to the Barbie Movie and some strategic business decisions, Barbie is making a major comeback – if it ever was gone before! You can find classic Barbie Dolls, Barbie themed sets, Barbie Chelsea Doll sets and even new Barbie miniature dolls and play-sets. (Think polly pocket sized) versions of this ever popular toy. Pajamas, books, puzzles and more, there are tons of choices.

Baby alive is a doll brand made to mimic the experience of caring for a baby. Different models do different things. Some dolls drink and/or eat and wet their diaper. Some crawl, some giggle, some come with a potty and some even “grow up” with love and care. You can change her outfits and take her with you. She is a forever friend for those motherly nurturing girls who love to care for others.

Remaining popular in 2024, these dolls come in small (around 2”) to full size comparable to a Barbie and even larger. Some come in special reveal packages for gifting.  You’ll find classic Elsa and Anna dolls, as well as interactive ones that sing when you press a button. There are styling heads complete with combs and hair accessories for creative play. Additionally, you can get character figures, plushies or themed playsets, like Elsa paired with a snowman (Olaf) and playdough. Or Elsa with a big shiny horse.

They take a circle battery that usually lasts a long time. They are not messy and I love how you the pen is attached! If you are considering buying for a child who loves to draw, write or doodle – keep it off your walls with this simple fun device. Available in themed styles like animals, dinosaurs and unicorns or coloured rectangular boards. A must have for kids who love to create!

Examples:

These super-soft cuddalable plushies come from mini sized (3.5″) clip-on all the way up to jumbo 24″ sizes. Kids love these for their fun designs, and super soft texture. Use it to cuddle, provide comfort or use as a pillow! They come in all kinds of different designs like themes. Also available are flip-a-mallows where it is one animal on one side and flip it inside out to get another animal. As well as surprise packs where you get one surprise Squishmallow.
